Stevens Pass got its start about 70 years ago and has grown steadily from a one rope operation to one of the major resorts in the Northeast sporting 10 lifts, 37 named runs, 1,125 acres of terrain, a 1,800 foot vertical and an average snowfall of about 450 inches. All this is a mere 78 miles from Seattle and smack-dab in the middle of the Mt. Bake-Snoqualmie and Wenatchee national forests making this a beautiful and easy to get to, winter retreat. With quick-service and full-service restaurants, on-site ski shops, lodging nearby, night skiing and other winter activities available it's no wonder Stevens Pass is such a popular area. Terrain For years Stevens Pass had been known as a great area for families and beginner to intermediate skiers and riders with a little bit of terrain there to keep the advanced-type entertained. But that all changed in 1988 with the opening of the Mill Valley area on the backside of the mountain which opened up a whole new world of bowls, chutes, glades and steeps. This part of the mountain can be reached by either the Double Diamond lift or the Tye Mill lift. Once there you will find some challenging named runs like Orion, and the steep Corona Bowl. But there is also a lot of in bounds unnamed stuff to be found here as well, for example the area between the Jupiter Chair and the Southern Cross Chair. If you aren't quite that advanced yet, don't worry, there are some good runs on the backside for you intermediate folks like Gemini or Aquarius. Plus the front of the mountain has all kinds of options for you; if fact, you should be able to find something to your liking off of any lift at Stevens Pass. Try Skyline off the Skyline Express for a long and open cruiser, or hit the terrain parks and pipes off the Brooks double, or Hogsback Express will get to you to a number of mid-length blues. If you are looking for a beginner lift the Daisy triple is the lift for you. Tye Creek and Easy Street are both slow skiing trails and when you are ready to pick up the pace a little try Promenade. Off-slope Fun There is about 25km of cross-country trails at Stevens Pass with a full Nordic Center including rentals and lessons.
