Another star in the Mont Saint-Sauver International galaxy, Mont Avila really does shine, especially since almost all of its trails are lighted for night skiing and riding. That would be eight out of 11 trails, basking under the glow of nearly half a million watts.

The lights (or the sun) shine on a compact hill with just over 600 feet of vertical. A detachable quad, a fixed-grip quad, and a double serve the trails, which are spread over 35 acres, all of it covered by snowmaking. There"s a terrain park, a tubing park with 15 chutes (five for kids and ten for adults) which is served by a triple chair, and a snow rafting park with two trails and one lift.

Mont Avila, despite being a separate entity, doesn"t stand alone, since it shares the same ridge and exposure as Mont Saint-Sauver itself. Trails follow a similar pattern at both areas: A core of advanced terrain flanked by easier stuff.

A lot of teaching goes on, day and night. There are programs for all ages. At the base you"ll find the expected amenities - food, snowsports school, rentals - but Mont Avila"s prime function is as a place to have fun. With the big tubing park and the snow rafting terrain to complement conventional trails, the term "snowplay" carries a bit more meaning here.
