It was greed and incompetent management on the part of the owner, Phil Robinson, that led to the closure of Gray Rocks. For years he didn't advertise in any of the ski magazines or send representatives to trade shows. He also made no upgrades to the ski hill or the inn. He wanted to destroy it in favor of yet more condos.
My dad use to be an instructor at Tremblant and came to the grey rocks hotel to meet girls. he finally met the right one, my mom! It will be greatly missed by my whole family.
Great memories at Grey Rocks, it will be missed. btw, to one of the posters. Completely agree with your point, but no company in Canada was "bailed out". Low interest loans were made, but that's the extent of it. Don't watch too much american news, it'll rot your brain
First place to offer man made snow in the Laurentians. A model for all other ski centres. Excellent in all aspects. Bernard Madoff caused its closure.
There will be some great "earn your turns" terrain this year as it is the first without the lifts spinning!! Looks like its getting filled in finally with the natural stuff!!
Closed forever because of bad investments with Madoff. That's what was said on TV.
It is an old and run down ski hill gray rocks never put money in their hill good thing that it is closing cheers to that
A terrific ski hill for young families and an integral part of the ski history of Quebec...the hotel will be demolished soon and as far as I know the ski hill is closed forever...this is a shame,,the government bales out a terrible hill like orford (I call it Iceford) but lets an historic landmark like Grey Rocks bite the dust...shame on you !
