forestry land...they are contracted to open Thanksgiving and close Easter. besides at this time you could become snack for waking bears.

Went to Steamboat this year for spring break. I will be back at Whitefish next year. Whitefish is way better to me.
Just came back from the Hill. The backside remains in good shape--a little icy at the bottom, but otherwise the runs there are good. The front side is another matter. Many of the runs have very thin cover (read rocks and twigs and grass) below 5500 feet, so be careful. And you go from delightful mid-winter snow at the summit, thru rock hard ice halfway down to slush and "bare spots" the closer you get to the Village. The good news is there are few folks taking advantage of the Mtn, so there is plenty of room to enjoy the last few days of skiing.

They are starting to close runs now. Last night they gave up on hellroaring Basin (10 runs), just not enough snow at lower levels. Be careful on the front side runs, many bare spots showing up on most runs, especially below 5000 feet. The best runs left are on the backside, and ONLY after things warm up a little. We haven't had ANY significant snow in almost two months and it shows--unfortunately. Good riddance El Nino.
