Big White is BC's second-largest ski resort with a totally ski-in/ski-out village. With the addition of TELUS Park and the TELUS Park chairlift, 6 new runs in the Gem Lake and the Cliff Chair last season, Big White offers 7,355 acres (3,052 hectares) of terrain for every type of skier or snowboarder. The growth hasn't stopped, as the resort is building a 66 million gallon reservoir, to be called Lake Paul. This will provide water for the resort as well as snow-making for TELUS Park. There has been extensive grooming over the summer, so more runs can open earlier in the season. The village is also getting bigger and better, with the Big White Mountain Mart quadrupling in size, to include a 60 seat deli. As well the revamped kids centre will offer new daycare services, accommodation is expanding with 1,000 new beds and Carver's Restauarant is opening in the village this season. Terrain Big White averages 24.5 feet (7.5 metres) per year of fresh champagne powder. Local's call it "Hero Snow" because it makes you look so good!! The mountain's amazing 2,765 acres of skiable terrain make it the second biggest mountain in British Columbia. Big White's abundant snowfall, mild temperatures and plenty of sunshine make it an ideal place for skiers of any level. Every night after the lifts close, our expert grooming team set out to deliver velvety swales of corduroy for your skiing pleasure. Big White was awarded "Best Grooming in the West" by Ski Canada Magazine. Skiing at Big White has become even better with last seasons' addition of six new runs at Gem Lake and the Cliff Chair. The Cliff Chair accesses Big White's famous "Cliff Area" leading to many untouched powder stashes. With the expansion on the western side, last season's addition of six intermediate runs adds just under 200 acres of skiable terrain. The runs at Gem Lake will increase the variety of trails and is just the first phase of expansion to this fantastic and exciting area of the mountain. There are so many activities during the winter at Big White, you'll want to extend your holiday just to fit them all in. Whether you want to test your prowess on the mountain, trying out our "hero powder" on the double black diamond runs, or just relax on a romantic night time sleigh ride, the choices are endless. At Happy Valley, you can speed downhill on truck-sized inner tubes, the kids can ride their own snowmobile and Big White's skating pond is ideal for a classic Canadian game of hockey or a leisurely ice skate. If you are looking for something different, why not view the scenery around Big White's beautiful village on a serene sleigh ride through the picturesque snow covered trees? Or perhaps you'd prefer to discover the natural wilderness of the mountain on an unforgettable guided snowshoe tour.
