After a half day at Snowbowl, I got bored. There is not a whole lot of terrain to choose from unless you wanna do BC. The snow conditions were not very good, and I was getting rained on while I was boarding. The snow was rough in some spots, and there was many exposed spots. This mountain is just much too small in comparison to Sunrise, and the snow was sub par when I visited
Until they update this resort there is no reason to go. I drove 3 hours today from Phoenix and the whole resort was shut down when i arrived due to winds. They claimed that they were open on their am report and did not mention anything about wind. I have skied many resorts through the west, and have never seen shutdown in these conditions. A modern resort with some modern lifts would have operated without a problem. So, until they do a serious overhaul, Snowbowl is not worth your money. drive the extra 3 hours and go somewhere else that will definitely be operating
i also grew up in the pacific nw going to hood, bachelor, baker, and whistler. to say that acts of god (or weather conditions) don't effect outdoor activities (whether it be skiing, snowboarding, surfing, kayaking, hiking, or fill in the blank) is just stupid. labeling someone weak or lame because of not wanting to partake in such activities in abhorrent conditions is outright lame in itself.
simmer down, people. quit acting like snowbowl is the snow mecca of the sw. the only reason that this place gets a decent amount of business is due to the close proximity to phx. thats a fact. I don't see people traveling from CO or UT to hit up snowbowl, so just settle down and realize that the typical snowbowl skier/boarder isn't that experienced and people who post subpar experiences about this place aren't attacking you personally.
if you havent encountered low visibility within your years skiing, then you must be either a beginner or you only come out on bluebird days and stay in when the weather is overcast and snowy
mountain is ok for beginners. come only as a last resort if you cant make it up to co, ut, or even sunrise for that matter
why no student discount at snowbowl? sunrise offers one
so based on your logic, when snowbowl got that huge storm that shut down the place a few months back, everyone (including me) who had plans to hit up the fresh pow that weekend, who had to cancel due to mother nature was "weak" or "soft"?! the only thing weak here is your argument. crack a book every now and again and expand your intelligence for societies sake, at the very least
